Congratulations to all the 2020 NISS graduates. It has been a week of celebrations with families, with community and at the school. The walking ceremony was livestreamed on June 18, 2020. A video is being created of the event. Pictures will be coming out in the Gazette and the North Island Eagle newspapers. We wish all of the grade 12’s well in their future endeavours. Thanks to everyone who supported the grads along the way and who helped make this a special time for them.
We have had some incoming grade 8’s come to the school for tours with a parent. It has been a pleasure to meet them. We will still be offering tours to incoming grade 8’s next week. Please email the school, if you would like to book an appointment. We have also created a virtual tour that we are working on distributing.
A list is being created this week of this year’s award winners. These awards and honours include the Principal’s list, Vice Principal’s list, top marks received in courses, Citizenship, and others. Certificates will be sent home in the mail. The recipients will be announced in the end of school newsletter and on the school website as we are not able to host our traditional awards ceremony this year which usually has about 300 people in the gym. We will still be having the school trophies engraved with students’ names on them. These will be on display in the trophy case. Some teachers hand out keeper awards. These will still be given out by the teacher or delivered to homes.
Furthermore, it is at the awards ceremony that we give well wishes to any staff who are moving on. This year John Bramham, the Shops teacher, will be retiring. We wish him happiness and good health for years to come. We will miss him! We would also like to acknowledge the work of the Vice Principal, Emma Robertson, this year at NISS. She will be moving to become the Principal of Sea View school in Port Alice. Congratulations on the new role and we wish her well. It is sad to see that Ms. Rebecca MacKenzie, Math and French teacher, will be moving. We thank her for her work and we wish her well at her new school.
We have one week left before Summer Break. The school is open Monday to Thursday 9:00-3:00 by appointment to accept students who would like onsite supports.
Report cards will be emailed home on July 3 and/or 6. If you would prefer a paper copy of the report card, please let us know and we will send one through Canada post.
We are needing all Google Chromebooks and textbooks returned to the school this coming week. Please drop them off at the school between 8:00 and 4:00. Families who live in Port Alice, Alert Bay, and Sointula can drop off items at the local elementary school by appointment. Please let us know if you have any questions.
We hope you have a good weekend.
