With the earlier darker days of fall and winter settling in, maintaining good mental health for all is a focus. We will be having some speakers doing virtual presentations with the grade 8’s and 12’s soon on this topic and with the grade 9, 10 and 11’s mid-February. We are also fortunate to be able to increase the amount of Youth support and counselling at NISS thanks to some extra programming from the ‘Namgis Nation. Mariam Windsor will be offering Youth supports on Wednesdays and Rena Hanuse will join us on some Mondays.
Today is the final day for Quarter 1. Students will begin their Quarter 2 classes on Monday. Something new for Quarter 2- we will be opening a concession for the first 20 minutes of each lunch hour from Monday to Thursday in the Multi-Purpose room following strict COVID food safety guidelines. All food and drink items will be pre-packaged and sold from behind a plexi-glass barrier. Items will be sold for $1, $2 or $3 and exact change will be needed. We will not be giving out change.
Learning groups will continue to use their same entrance and exit doors; however, the welcoming rooms may change due to room and teacher changes.

We’ll end this update with a note about masks from the Centre for Disease Control:
Take Off Your Mask Carefully, When You’re Home and In-class
- Untie the strings behind your head or stretch the ear loops
- Handle only by the ear loops or ties
- Fold outside corners together
- Place mask in the washing machine (learn more about how to wash masks)
- Be careful not to touch your eyes, nose, and mouth when removing and wash hands immediately after removing.
Have a safe and relaxing weekend.
